Pakistan cricketer Umar Akmal has been announced three years ban by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for not reporting the corrupt approaches. However, his punishment might get deducted after the final judgement comes.

PCB’s disciplinary panel, led by Justice (retd) Fazal-e-Miran Chauhan, on Monday, in Lahore proclaimed the ban on the wicketkeeper-batsman after having a discussion for an hour. According to a source close to this development, there are chances that the judge will suspend most part of the three-year ban after seeing his past track record.

Umar Akmal might get relief:

Umar Akmal, three year ban

“People are jumping to conclusions about the three-year ban but the detailed order is yet to come out. Umar might eventually get a three-year ban with two years suspended or something like that,” the source told PTI.

“Umar could get a suspended sentence in his three-year ban because this will also test him as an individual to see how he behaves and conducts himself in future,” the source said.

“When the majority part of a ban is suspended, the player has to be careful with his behaviour or he could end up being banned for the entire duration of the ban,” he explained.

Well, Umar can also appeal against the panel decision in 14 days after he gets a copy of the detailed judgement. His brother Kamran Akmal has said that it is a harsh punishment and they are likely to appeal against it.

Umar has not played with the team after playing the T20I series against Sri Lanka at home in 2019. Since then, he has been out of the team. He was also suspended to play in the PSL 5 on February 20 by the PCB in the spot-fixing approach case.
