Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra faced harsh comments after he ignored MS Dhoni in his India squad for T20 World Cup in Australia. Chopra maintained he had to keep himself away from social media for some days as people abused him.

Fans have always been aggressive whenever anyone comments against Dhoni. Although he has been silent on his comeback, his fans have openly shown their interest to see the wicketkeeper-batsman in action again. Thus, when the experienced commentator took a bold step of dropping Dhoni from his T20 World Cup squad, fans went on to troll him. After this, Chopra decided to step away from public platforms for some days.

“I had to close social media for a few days. People abused me so much, it kept on coming, they abused the kids as well. I said please pardon me guys, what happened has happened,” Aakash Chopra told while talking to former pacer Ajit Agarkar.

During the live conversation on Instagram, former Indian Test opener also asked Ajit Agarkar about his views regarding Dhoni’s future in Indian cricket. The Mumbaikar went on to keep things straight forward. He said that retirement depends on Dhoni, but it is hard to say that he would be selected again in the Team. Dhoni had been under sabbatical since the disheartening end of the World Cup last year. It has been over a year since he has made himself unavailable from international cricket.

“I don’t know actually. Retiring or not retiring is MS Dhoni’s call. To select or to not select is selectors’ call if he fits in their plan. I don’t know, for the player who hasn’t played for a year, for me it will be difficult. Don’t know about the communication between MS Dhoni and team management or with the selectors.”

The 38-year-old Dhoni was set to play the Indian Premier League, but because of the global pandemic, the league has been postponed. Currently, he is spending time with his family and staying away from any retirement speculations.
