Legendary Indian batsman in the domestic circuit, Wasim Jaffer has said that former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly is the best captain that he has played under. Wasim Jaffer has been one of India’s greatest-ever domestic cricket batsmen. He has scored more than 12000 runs in the Ranji Trophy, the premier domestic competition in Indian cricket. He announced his retirement from all forms of cricket with immediate effect from March 07.
The 42-year-old, Jaffer who is also the highest run-scorer in the history of Ranji Trophy, played 31 Tests and two One-Day Internationals (ODIs) between 2000-2008. It is only a matter of wonder as to why who achieved so much in the domestic circuit couldn’t excel on the international stage with the amount of potential that he had.

Now, Jaffer has said that former Indian skipper, Sourav Ganguly is the best captain that he has played under as he raised a lot of youngsters during his tenure.
Wasim Jaffer Heaps Praise On Sourav Ganguly
Jaffer who has played 5 Tests out of his 31 under Ganguly’s captaincy, said the current BCCI president was the one who made the Indian side after 2000.
“Sourav Ganguly was the one who made the team after 2000. He had the temperament, backed the players, and gave them a longer rope,” Jaffer told CricTracker.

Jaffer said Sourav Ganguly made Sehwag open, who had been a middle-order batsman throughout his career and also backed Zaheer, Yuvraj, and Harbhajan to do well.
“He made Sehwag open the batting and brought players like Zaheer Khan, Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh,” Jaffer said.
Sourav Ganguly Built The Team That Went On To Rule World Cricket
Although Sourav Ganguly could not lead team India to an ICC title or help them achieve the first position in the ICC Test Team Rankings, there can be no denying the fact that Sourav Ganguly brought a revolution in Indian captaincy.

Ganguly reposed faith in young players and they eventually went on to pay the price in the latter stages of their career. During his tenure, Sourav Ganguly has led Team India in 146 ODIs and 49 Tests, out of which the team emerged victorious on 76 and 21 occasions respectively.
