Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer recently stated that he is happy with the inclusion of veterans Ravichandran Ashwin and Ajinkya Rahane to the team. He believes they will add depth to the squad and will help them in rotating the playing 11 according to the opposition and conditions.

Rahane was transferred to Delhi Capitals (DC) from Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Ashwin was brought from Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). The IPL 2020 will be played between September 19 and November 10. The venue this time is UAE and matches will be played in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah respectively.

Ashwin and Rahane will add depth to the squad: Shreyas Iyer

The 25 years old Delhi Capitals skipper who is also the youngest captain in the IPL this season says he will rely on Ashwin and Rahane for advice on the field which would be beneficial for the team with the experience they possess. Rahane has captained RR and Ashwin was the captain of KXIP.

“I think it adds tremendous depth to our side and gives Ricky and me the option to be flexible with the playing eleven, depending on where we are playing, who our opposition is and how we are placed in the tournament at a particular point.

Also, these are both individuals who are highly knowledgeable about the game and have captained IPL teams. So for me as a captain, (it is an opportunity) to use their experience and reach out to them whenever I want to share or discuss anything at all.” said Shreyas Iyer in a video tweeted by IPL’s official handle.

Blessed to work closely with Ricky Ponting in the IPL: Shreyas Iyer

Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting is the head coach of Delhi Capitals this season and captain Shreyas Iyer is excited on the opportunity to work with such a huge figure. He says Ponting makes you feel like at home and gives the freedom to play their own game.

“I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to work with a person of his stature so closely. He is such a legend and makes everyone from the senior-most player to the newest guy feel at home and a part of this team. As a captain, he gives you the freedom and that has helped me grow as a cricketer.”
