Delhi Capitals bowling coach Ryan Harris is impressed by his players quickly gaining their rhythm back even after having no training in the last few months due to the pandemic. Harris completed his six-day lockdown and was present in the training for the first time on Wednesday.

According to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) the players and the support staff need to quarantine for six-days on reaching UAE and go through three COVID-19 tests resulting negative, only then can they begin their training. The Delhi capitals squad have finished their mandatory six-day quarantine and had started their training on Saturday.

Ryan Harris is impressed by the DC players regaining their form so quickly

The former Australian cricket coach has been left amazed by watching the Delhi Capitals’ players in training doing so good even after a long break from the game. He commended the players’ work ethic.

“I know that the boys haven’t been able to train in the past few months due to the pandemic, but watching them bat and bowl, and seeing some shots flying over the fence, I’ve been impressed with them,” said Harris in a team statement.

“Their work ethic is unbelievable and they seem in very good space for guys who haven’t done a lot of training – they look in excellent condition.”

I still get goosebumps seeing him talk in the huddle: Ryan Harris on Ricky Ponting

DC bowling coach Ryan Harris told it was hard for him to stay idle for 6 days in the quarantine. It was probably the best message he has ever got, he said about receiving the message of clearance to join training with the squad

“Honestly, six days isn’t a lot, but it felt like three weeks for me because I am not someone who can sit still for very long. But when I got the message this morning from the doctor, saying I’ve cleared my quarantine and my tests, that was probably the best message I’ve ever got . Then to obviously watch the boys train has been fantastic,” he said.

Harris said he’s still intimidated by the presence of his former Australia teammate and DC head coach Ricky Ponting. He feels lucky to get the opportunity to be a part of this project and to learn from Ricky Ponting.

“I still get goosebumps seeing him talk in the huddle. I’m very lucky for him to have asked me to come here to be part of this project, and to work with him is very satisfying for me, and very humbling experience.

“I’ve been coaching for a few years now, but there’s still so much to learn, and I think there’s no better person to do it with than Ricky.” he added

DC side is one of the three teams to have never won the IPL. Moreover, they have never even made it to the finals. They have quite some squad depth this season to go for the extra mile with new additions like Ajinkya Rahane, Ravichandran Ashwin, Marcus Stoinis, who have bolstered their lineup as an all-rounder. The IPL 2020 will be played between September 19 and November 10.
