Robin Morris, the former first-class cricketer who went on to represent Mumbai and Odisha has been arrested by the Versova police for his involvement in cricket betting. He, along with two others, was found taking bets in currently undergoing IPL matches, according to a report in the Times of India. The Canadian Robin Morris, played 44 first-class games including 2 T20 matches and 51 List A games between 1995 and 2007.

Robin Morris was earlier part of the rebel league, Indian Cricket League and played for Mumbai Champs between 2007-2009 which was defunct in 2009. He played his last first-class cricket match during the 2004-05 Irani Cup for Mumbai against the Rest of India cricket team. Robin Morris went onto quit cricket at the age of 31.

Robin Morris Involved IPL 2020 Betting:

The police went on to say that they had received a tip about betting activities at Robin Morris’ house in Versova.

“Morris was involved in taking bets on an IPL match,” said an officer.

The police also seized laptops and cellphones from the house. He will be in police custody till he is presented in the Magistrate court on Monday.

In fact, in 2018 too he was named by Al Jazeera TV after a sting operation was conducted. Former Pakistan batsman Hasan Raza was seen sitting next to him as they spoke to the undercover reporter about spot-fixing in T20 tournaments. But the cricketer denied any such involvement and said that he was called for an audition for a film.

Robin Morris Involved Earlier As Match Fixer And Kidnapper Too

ICC alleged robin Morris for his involvement as a match-fixer during Sri Lanka’s home Test series against both Australia in 2016 and against India in 2017. Robin Morris was intended to have influenced in fixing allegations relating to Sri Lankan home matches for attempting pitch tampering during Sri Lanka‘s 2nd Test match against Australia and Sri Lanka’s 1st Test match against India in Galle.

This is not the first time he has landed in trouble. On 2019 December, he, along with four others, were arrested for kidnapping a loan agent from Kurla, for recovering money worth Rs 2 lakh. Police had said that he had applied and paid heavy processing fee for a personal loan with a private agency. The application was made through agent Shyam Talreja. When the loan wasn’t approved, he started pursuing the latter for the processing fee.
