Former Indian chief selector, Kiran More, has shed light on how former Indian skipper, MS Dhoni, was picked in the India National Cricket Team back in the year 2004 and has revealed how they were impressed by Dhoni’s presence.

MS Dhoni is widely regarded as the most successful Indian captain in the history of Indian cricket. The strong lad from Ranchi made way into the Indian team back in 2004 and ever since he was handed the captaincy in 2007, Dhoni hasn’t looked back in his career.

Kiran More Reveals How MS Dhoni Was Selected In The Indian Team

Former Indian chief selector, who was the chief selector of the India National Cricket Team when  MS Dhoni made his debut in the national side, has revealed what led to Dhoni’s selection.

“Rahul Dravid had already kept in 75 One-day Internationals, so we were looking for a wicketkeeper-batsman who could whack the ball and we could give Rahul a respite,” More told WV Raman on his podcast ‘Inside Out’.

“There was surely something special about the way he approached the game. We picked him for India A to Kenya, where he had a good tour and scored over 600 runs. We already had players like Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh but when Dhoni came, he was a complete package and took the Indian cricket by storm,” More further recalled.

Dhoni Announced International Retirement On August 15

MS Dhoni announced retirement from international cricket this year on August 15 as he took the fans by shock. He had last played for team India in the ICC 2019 Cricket World Cup against New Zealand in the semi-final of the tournament.

Although Dhoni retired from international cricket, he continued playing in the IPL and will continue to do so in the 2021 edition of the tournament. The famous Indian captain also has 3 IPL titles to his name in the tournament.
