For 37 years WrestleMania has produced some of the incredible matches in professional wrestling history. There are great matches as well as some terrible matches, also there are some weird matches as well.
If you ask different people about their personal favorite WrestleMania match, you will mostly get to hear different matches. Someone will say Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker from Mania 25, some will say Michaels vs. Undertaker from Mania 26. Opinions will keep varying, that is the beauty of ‘The Showcase of the Immortals.’
Bruce Prichard Reveals Which Classic WrestleMania Match He Hated
The current Executive Director of WWE Raw and Smackdown recently revealed which classic WrestleMania match he hated, it is the infamous Hardcore Match between Edge and Mick Foley from WrestleMania 22. During a recent episode of Something to Wrestle With, he said;
Hated it….look, the spectacle and the amount of effort put into the performance by everyone involved was by far, no one can knock that. No one can say that wasn’t an unbelievable performance by every single person involved.
You know me, I’m not a fan of thumbtacks. F*cking fire? Not my cup of tea, not something that I’m a big fan of. You watch it sometimes and go, ‘Holy shit.’ I’m always concerned for the safety of the talent involved and watching it made me cringe all over again. But when you talk about putting everything on the line, these guys put everything on the line and put their bodies through unbelievable punishment to deliver a spectacle that will go down as one of those matches people will always bring up and recall.
Again, it’s just not my cup of tea. There are sometimes as I get older, I appreciate it less. I think Foley and Edge both loved it. They were very happy with it, and they should’ve been proud of it. They left their heart and soul out there.
Edge vs. Mick Foley is considered one of the most brutal hardcore matches of WrestleMania history. This type of match cannot be seen in recent days of WWE. Since WWE turned PG, we lost all the real hardcore stuff.
This match was not suitable for casual wrestling fans. There are more similar matches produced by ‘The Hardcore Legend’ Mick Foley such as his match against Randy Orton from Backlash 2004. Foley went by the Cactus Jack in that match. Truly, he was the Hardcore legend.
Those days are long done. We do not think these extreme hardcore matches will ever return to WWE, unfortunately.
