This week’s Smackdown started as Cesaro was seen standing inside the ring. Seth Rollins entered the arena. He congratulated Cesaro for reaching his potential and he said that he could only do it because he was in the ring with Seth Rollins and he claimed himself to be the new Mr. WrestleMania. Rollins said their rivalry was not over yet.
Cesaro asked Seth to come out so that they could fight. Jey Uso interrupted. He showed his anger on Crsaro as he was beaten by him the previous week. Seth and Jey attempted to attack Cesaro as Daniel Bryan interfered for Cesaro’s aid. Bryan said that Cesaro deserved a Universal title shot more than anyone. He also said that he had respect for Cesaro.
WWE Smackdown Results & Ratings 23.04.21
WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns came out in the arena. He reminded Bryan he was beaten at WrestleMania. He made fun of Cesaro. He called both of them losers.
Match 1 – Cesaro & Daniel Bryan defeated Jey Uso & Seth Rollins
Excellent tag team action. The match was booked for around fifteen minutes. Both teams were given a nice and strong booking. In the end, Seth Rollins walked out on his teammate and Daniel Bryan pinned Jey Uso with a running knee.
After the match, Cesaro and Daniel Bryan teased Roman Reigns. To provoke Roman more they beat down Jey to see if Roman comes for his aid. But Roman did not come. Bryan then challenged Roman on behalf of Cesaro and himself for the Universal title.
Match 2 – Tamina defeated Nia Jax
The match was booking for only three minutes but it did a good job for storytelling. Nia and Shayna’s bad blood that started last week increased. At the end, Tamina pinned Nia with a roll up pin.
Match 3 – WWE US Champion Apollo Crews defeated Kevin Owens to retain
The match was booked for around 11 minutes and it was extremely entertaining. Owens was shown as a stronger force. At the end, Dabba Kato caused a distraction for Owens and Apollo pinned him with a roll up. After the match, Dabba Kato knocked Owens down with a move called Nigerian Nail. The was the exact clone of Samoan Spike used by Umaga.
Backstage Apollo Crews was attacked by Big E while giving an interview. Apollo was knocked out after Big E’s attack.
Promo footage was shown for Aleister Black. He is coming back!
The Smackdown Women’s Championship match was announced for WrestleMania Backlash, Bianca Belair will defend the title against Bayley. Bayley cut a very good promo backstage.
Match 4 – Rey & Dominique Mysterio defeated Chad Gable & Otis
The match was booked for 7 minutes and it was a really entertaining match. Rey Mysterio pinned Chad Gable with a frog splash to ensure victory for his side.
Cesaro and Daniel Bryan entered the arena. Cesaro demanded an answer that he threw earlier on the night. Roman Reigns came out with Paul Heyman & Jey Uso on his side. Roman said that his answer was no, because Cesaro was not on his level.
But he accepted Daniel Bryan’s challenge and he told that he would defend his title against next week. But he gave a condition, if Daniel Bryan loses he would have to leave Smackdown forever. Bryan accepted the condition. The two athletes kept looking at each other as this week’s Smackdown went off the air.
Overall, it was a very good show. It did an amazing job in storytelling and building up all the ongoing feuds. We give it 4 stars out of 5. One star will be deducted for not giving a proper booing for Kevin Owens.
