Former WWE star who is a former six times WWE world champion CM Punk recently said WWE is definitely a competition for the AEW. CM Punk who currently works as a full time wrestler in the AEW believes WWE is a competition for his current promotion.
Punk might have started his professional wrestling career back in 1999 but he got his ultimate fame way after starting his professional wrestling career. He travelled in many promotions including the Ring Of Honor and TNA Wrestling before finally joining WWE back in 2005. He got trained in the Ohio Valley Wrestling which was the development Territory of the WWE back in the time.
CM Punk Calls WWE A Competition For AEW
He first got some non wrestling rules before finally making his main roster in ring debut. Slowly he went on to become one of the most famous wrestlers in WWE. He was one of the most over wrestler among the fans. But there was a time when he believed that WWE is not treating him properly and in early 2014 he decided to leave the world of professional wrestling.
But he made his Grand return after 7 long years to professional wrestling. This time he did not come back to WWE, but today arrival promotion AEW. Fans were dying to see him back to professional wrestling since the very first day he left the world of wrestling. It is definitely a huge post for AEW. And Punk now loves to call WWE a rival for his new promotion.
CM Punk who is a former six times WWE world champion recently spoke to WFAN’s Moose & Maggie Show where he said WWE is definitely a competition for the AEW. He said;
“Yeah I think it be straight up telling a big old like if you said that you didn’t want to beat them in whatever metrics they deem successful,” Punk said. “If you ask them, they’ll say AEW is not their competition, which is great because I think everyone sees through that.
“If you ask us, I’ll say yeah, absolutely they’re our competition. However, we’re focused on what we’re doing. We’re focused on the people in the building that have paid to see AEW. And we’re not so much worried on anything else.
“I know that TNT executives love ratings. That’s what they’re business is driven by. I’m focused on the fans, and I think that’s how you grow the business. I think that’s how we’ll eventually grow AEW.
“If you’re talking about head to head competition with WWE, they have about a 30 year head start. AEW has been around for 2 years. I like what we’ve been doing and it’s fun again for me. So I’m not trying to bankrupt anybody, put anybody out of business. But it’s 100% competition. If you say it’s not, you’re fooling yourself, or you’re pretending somebody doesn’t exist or whatever. And I think you’re shooting yourself in the foot.”
