Ganguly wishes Tendulkar for his stint as good will ambassador for the IOA

The news about India’s cricketing son Sachin Tendulkar accepting the invitation to be a part of the Indian contingent at the Rio Olympics has taken the social media by a storm in the country.

Earlier, it was proposed that Bollywood star Salman Khan would be a part of the contingent but it is now official that Tendulkar will travel to Rio to act as a goodwill ambassador as a part of the Indian contingent for the mega event.

“I strongly believe that the sportspersons from different parts of the country, pursuing their unique skills are the true ambassadors of the growing sporting culture in this country,” wrote Sachin Tendulkar accepting the invitation for the event.

And his fellow team-mate and Indian legend Saurav Ganguly gave his opinion on the decision.

“You got to leave some decision to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). You keep on asking my opinion. I don’t believe in giving an opinion on everything. I wish them all the best,” Ganguly said speaking to the media in a recent interview.

The former Indian skipper in the past was not against the decision to send the Bollywood star to the Olympics and felt that Salman Khan would have provided the necessary visibility for the event.

“I am fine with Salman being appointed as the ambassador as he can bring visibility and glamour quotient to anything,” Ganguly said a couple of weeks ago.

But now, Sachin Tendulkar will act as the goodwill ambassador for the country at Rio and Ganguly once again explained in the simplest way why Sachin was a part of it.

“Sachin has done wonders for India and that is why they have him on board,” he said.

Along with the batting legend, India’s proud Olympic player Abhinav Bindra is also invited by the Indian Olympic association to be the goodwill ambassadors for the Indian Contingent in the Olympics.

Actor Salman Khan was initially a part of this very contingent but after divided opinions about his inclusion, the IOA have decided to send Sachin and Bindra for the event.
