He was very much popular among the fans that he used to get massive cheers among the fans even being a heel.

Bryan Danielson Loves To Play Heel Character More
WWE planned a feud with the authority for him that would last long at least till Wrestlemania XXX where he would face the Game Triple H and the main event match of that event was planned to be Randy Orton vs Batista for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
But fans were not liking it at all. They wanted Bryan to be included into the main event. Even Batista was receiving constant negative reaction. WWE had no choice but to include Bryan onto the match. It turned out to be one of the most melodramatic main event in Wrestlemania history.
Later he had to retire because of an injury which was really heartbreaking for the WWE fans. But he was able to return to in ring action in a number of years. This time he was portrayed as a heel for quite a long time, and not a lovable heel, this time he was in menacing heel.

But even this heel turn did not last long. He turned babyface soon. After losing to Roman Reigns in back to back failed attempts to win the WWE Universal Championship, he left WWE and join their latest competition, the AEW.
Daniel Bryan who is currently going by the name of Bryan Danielson at his current promotion the All Elite Wrestling recently spoke to WDEL where he said that he loves to play villain more when it comes to the question of either heel or babyface. He said;
“I do like being booed, I think it’s a lot of fun. But both are good, as long as you’re getting a strong reaction either way, both are good. I think it’s always more fun to be the villain.

“My training never really changes, other than changes to make sure your body doesn’t adapt to a single thing. I didn’t do anything special. I’ve never had an issue getting tired in matches. I also live at high altitude (Lake Tahoe, NV), so it makes breathing easier at low altitude, it’s almost like a breeze.
“I’m also very, very active. Today I’ve already done a 90 minute workout with weights, I’ll likely do some Ju-Jitsu, and then some kickboxing. I do this several times a week. Doing all of those things keep you in good condition naturally. If you have to worry about your conditioning, you already have one worry before you go out there, and I want to have as few worries as possible.”
