There was an era when in Test cricket only batsmen could score runs and bowlers never dare to pad up to avoid fearsome deliveries. But on many occasion, they have to bat for teams’. Their batting used to provoke sympathetic smiles from captains and coaches and great anticipation and hilarity among spectators. But they are not so readily tolerated nowadays when cricketers are required to be ‘multi-dimensional’, which I think means they must all be able to bat a bit as well as catch and throw.
