Jos Buttler believes the team that deals best with the disrupted preparations and distractions around a ‘unique’ Ashes series will have the best chance of walking away with the spoils. Jos Buttler has played 53 Tests amassing exactly 2800 runs at an average of 33.33 with 2 tons and 18 fifties, besides affecting 142 dismissals behind the wicket as a gloveman.

England’s preparations for the Ashes 2021/22 may have been disrupted by the inclement weather in Brisbane, but wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler said that the team won’t be using that as an excuse if they perform poorly in the first Test. Jos Buttler and his teammates from England’s T20 World Cup campaign finally emerged from quarantine and joined up with the rest of the Test squad on the Gold Coast on Tuesday.

Jos Buttler: Cricketers Have To Be Able To Walk Into Situations Underprepared

The Queensland rain might have thrown another spanner into the works by washing out the first day of an intra-squad match, but Jos Buttler was phlegmatic about his lack of red-ball preparation ahead of next week’s first test in Brisbane.

“In this day and age, lots of us go between formats quite often. In the COVID era things have changed quite a lot as well, with quarantine rules making certain things a little bit trickier,” he told reporters.

“I do think it’s something that you just have to deal with as a modern player, to be able to walk into situations without having full preparation. No team should be using that as excuses, you can still turn up on that first day and play a really good Test match.”

Jos Buttler and other players from England’s T20 World Cup team joined the rest of the squad only on Friday after their quarantine ended and frequent rain in Brisbane has been another problem that the visitors had to deal with while training.

Jos Buttler Is Not Worrying Currently About The Omicron Coronavirus

Jos Buttler also said that he is not thinking about the Omicron coronavirus and the effects it could have on the fifth Test of the series in Perth. England’s players negotiated hard over the restrictions they would be playing under during the five Tests around the country, particularly the right to bring their families with them to Australia before they agreed to the tour.

“I find it tiring to talk about it when you don’t know,” he said.

“That’s not for me to worry about at the minute. There’s a week to go until the first Test here and all our energies are focused on that.”

Jos Buttler was England’s standout performer with the bat in the recently concluded T20I WC 2021, scoring 269 runs in six games averaging 89.66 with one hundred and a fifty. The England batsman became the first cricketer to get to the 3-figure mark in the T20I World Cup 2021 as he hammered 101 not out in just 67 balls on a tough pitch against Sri Lanka in their Super 12 match.

England was among the favourites to lift the T20I World Cup trophy for the 2nd time and had a consistent run until the semi-finals. Then, however, they lost to New Zealand in a close encounter in the knockouts.

The chances of the final Ashes 2021/22 Test going ahead as planned at Perth in Western Australia, which has a particularly strict Covid-19  policy, are increasingly slim. Instead, the match in January looks likely to be switched to a day-night affair and be staged in Melbourne, which is currently due to stage only the Boxing Day Test.
