It turned out to be a rather off day for the Sunrisers Hyderabad against the Delhi Daredevils at Hyderabad. After getting off to a flying start by the courtesy of David Warner, the middle order of the Sunrisers collapsed meekly, which dented their prospects of a strong total on board. Warner initially found able support from Shikhar Dhawan, but once Dhawan too got out, none of the other batsmen could persist along.
147 was never going to be a difficult target on a good batting wicket, and the Daredevils proved just that. De Kock was fluent yet again and despite losing a few wickets, the visitors won the game with 11 balls to spare. A special stand between youngsters Sanju Samson and Rishab Pant, where the two put on 72 runs in 8.2 overs was a treat to the eyes.
In the post-match presentation, Sunrisers skipper David Warner hinted that he expected improvements from his batsmen. “We were 20-30 runs short. At 80/1 off 10, you expect to get at least 170. They bowled terrifically and our batters couldn’t get the job done today. I’m happy with that but need a couple of guys to take responsibility to keep going. We’ll try and address that situation in the middle period of the innings and come back fresh,” said Warner.
Chris Morris was named the Man of the match for his bowling performance, and he seemed delighted with the result. “A good day for us. The boys turned up beautifully, the break was helpful to charge our batteries. NCN (Coulter-Nile) ran in hard for today. I take my hat off to him for the way he steamed in. And Shami bowled well especially after the start they got. My job in the team is to bowl fast and keep the run rate down. It’s very refreshing, to be honest,” said Morris.
