Roy Keane slams Manchester United captain Harry Maguire over his comments

Manchester United players getting an earful from the former legendary figure is nothing new at Old Trafford. But the same player getting slammed by the former captain, again and again, is something new for the Red Devils fans. Current captain Harry Maguire has been a constant target for former legendary skipper Roy Keane and the latter has once again implied that ‘Maguire is talking rubbish’.

Roy Keane, the football pundit on ITV, has claimed that Maguire is giving the same excuses every time he walks out to talk to the reporters and he does not listen to him anymore. This came after the latest Manchester United 1-0 home league defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers last Monday. With this loss, the Red Devils are placed 7th in the league table with just 31 points from the opening 19 fixtures.

Keane also pointed out Manchester United’s recent performances despite strengthening the squad in the summer transfer window. Manchester United finished the last season in the 2nd position in the Premier League and improved their squad with the likes of summer signings Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, and Raphael Varane. But the struggles continue for the Red Devils despite a recent managerial change at Old Trafford.

Maguire, who has been failed to live up to his price tag since his arrival at Old Trafford for a transfer fee of £95 million in 2019. He was appointed as a club captain just after 6 months of his arrival which also backfired big as his leadership qualities have been below average compared to other league captains. Maguire himself is having a tough season with inconsistent displays on the pitch. He was sent off after receiving two yellow cards within 5 minutes for clumsy challenges against Watford in a 4-1 loss. Fans and former players are demanding more from their club and losing hope with their captain.

Harry Maguire Justifies The Current Dressing Room Situation But Roy Keane Doesn’t Agree:

The rumours of the divided dressing room at Old Trafford are flying around which involves new signing Cristiano Ronaldo, manager Ralf Rangnick, and Harry Maguire. Players are also unhappy with Ralf Rangnick’s playing formation 4-4-2 or 4-2-2-2, which they are finding it tough to adapt. According to the latest report, the German is planning to introduce a 3-4-3 formation in their next fixture. Players are planning for summer exit as United’s hope to finish this season in top-four is in question. Maguire explained the current dressing room situation while talking on the official club website and Roy Keane was quick to respond on ITV.

“I’m the captain and leader in the dressing room, and I’ve had private conversations with the players and the management which will remain private. Make no mistake about it, I’m here for the fight and I know my teammates are. I expect them to be and if they’re not then – like I said – there’s something wrong.” – Harry Maguire.

“How many times has he said that? I wouldn’t listen too much to what Harry has to say. I’ll judge a player on what he does on a football pitch, not what rubbish he comes out with about players sticking together and we need to do more. Judge a player on what he does on a football pitch and United aren’t doing enough. I still expect United to turn up and put on a performance but it’s not been good enough recently.” – Roy Keane.
