Young leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi is quite thrilled as he got selected for Team India to play limited-overs series against West Indies. On Wednesday the selectors announced an 18-member squad for the series against West Indies and the 21-year old got inducted into both T20I and ODI squads.
“It has been an interesting journey and it is a great honour to don the India colours. It is a proud moment for me and it feels great to see your dream come true,” Ravi Bishnoi spoke to Sportstar.
In the previous tour of South Africa, Indian spinners Chahal and Ashwin failed to make an impact in the middle overs so the selectors decided to go with the youngster to solve India’s middle overs woes. Ravi Bishnoi made an impression on one and all with his performance in IPL for Punjab Kings. He picked 24 wickets in 23 matches with an exceptional economy of 6.97.

“I was waiting for my opportunity. I was preparing myself for the big league and was keeping myself ready so that I can give my hundred per cent whenever an opportunity comes my way. My only aim was to keep performing and then wait for my turn,” Bishnoi said.
Bishnoi also credited Anil Kumble for his success as he learned a lot under his guidance in Punjab Kings. Bishnoi also had a formidable record in domestic 50-over games as he picked 24 wickets in 17 List-A games.
“I have learned a lot from Anil sir, and those lessons have helped me in becoming a better cricketer. He would always guide me on how to back myself and never lose hope under pressure.
“Those things were of immense help. He always told me to play to my strengths. The advice was that I should stick to my basics and just execute the plans. There was no experiment. He gave me the confidence to play freely,” he added.
It has been a fruitful week for him as the Lucknow franchise announced that he’s one of three draft pickings along with KL Rahul and Marcus Stoinis ahead of the auction. Ravi Bishnoi believes that it will be easier for him to adjust as he already played under the captaincy of KL Rahul.

“With Rahul bhaiya (KL Rahul) leading the team, it will be easier for me to adjust since I have already played under him in Punjab. It is a great opportunity for me to be among the few players to be picked by the franchise before the auction. I want to contribute my best to the team,” he said.
