India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has recalled one hilarious incident during his first season with RCB in 2014. Chahal made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians in 2013 but since 2014, he has been associated with the RCB and led the bowling attack under Virat Kohli.
In his 8 years stint with the franchise, Chahal picked 139 wickets in 113 games. Though for this season, RCB didn’t retain him ahead of the mega auction. In a conversation with Ravichandran Ashwin on his Youtube channel, Chahal recalled his first season with RCB when he used to be nervous to face captain Virat Kohli.

Kohli, who used to field at Covers, was always aggressive and energetic and Yuzvendra Chahal used to follow the suit and ended up charging towards the batsmen after taking a wicket. It didn’t go well with the match referee as he spoke to coach Daniel Vettori about the matter.

“When I went to RCB in 2014, I was very nervous – on the field too. He used to be in the covers, and he was so energetic. And I was a youngster, and he sometimes got angry with me too.
“So in 2014, when I used to pick up a wicket those days, I used to charge towards the batsman to show my aggression. That happened two-three times, and the match referee spoke to [the coach] Daniel Vettori,” Chahal told Ashwin.
But despite the warning, things didn’t change as he kept charging on the face of batsmen after every wicket. So coach Daniel Vettori gave him a hilarious suggestion to cool off his anger.
“Then in one match, I said something bad, and Vettori sir came to me and said, ‘This is not good, you have the potential but if you can change this thing… if you want to run (after picking a wicket), you run towards the covers, to Virat bhaiyya, and say whatever you want to – Virat won’t mind,” Chahal recalled the incident.
In his debut season, Yuzvendra Chahal picked 12 wickets with an exceptional economy of 7.02. It will be interesting to see if RCB again goes for him at the auction.
