Former England all-rounder Paul Collingwood is likely to be appointed as an interim coach for the West Indies tour. Notable that Chris Silverwood was sacked as England’s head coach after the Ashes debacle.

Paul Collingwood coached England’s T20 series against West Indies when all the Ashes touring side was rested for the series. Former England opener Marcus Trescothick was his deputy in the tour as West Indies beat the visitors by 3-2 in the 5-match T20I series.

As interim managing director Andrew Strauss has started working on the search for a new England head coach, Collingwood is likely to be appointed for short-term. Noteworthy that Collingwood is already in Barbados.

Collingwood was previously associated with England as a fielding coach. Earlier he also had a stint with the Scotland team. He was the first England captain to win an ICC title when they won the T20 World Cup in 2010.

Strauss is mulling various options as Collingwood might be considered as the candidate for the white-ball coach. ECB is considering the possibility of split coaching responsibilities due to bio-bubble life fatigue.

In the past few days, Justin Langer, who was sacked as Australia’s head coach, has emerged as a huge favourite for the job as a section of England former players including Michael Vaughan believe that the Australian can turn things around for Joe Root & Co.

Justin Langer had 3 years stint with Australia as they won their first away Ashes series win after 18 years. Also, Australia won their maiden T20 World Cup title last year under his coaching and he finished his stint with a thrashing 4-0 win in the Ashes at home.

England faced a tough time in West Indies in recent years as they haven’t won a Test series in West Indies since 2004. In fact, since 1968, England won a Test series in West Indies only once. So Joe Root & Co will have another stern test to follow.
