Ric Flair Reveals Why He Dropped The WWE Title To Bret Hart In 1992
Even though he had a short run in WWE from 1991 to 1993 and that was all. The next time he arrived at WWE was in 2002 when he was already past his prime. In his first WWE run he had been treated as a main event star in WWE.
He won the WWE Championship two times in only 2 year time. Back in those days it was not very easy for everyone to win the WWE championship unlike now. Winning two WWE championships in two years during the early 90s was a huge deal without any doubt.
Flair won his first WWE Championship after winning the Royal Rumble match of 1992. The WWE championship was vacated before the event and it was on the line at the Royal Rumble event in the 30 Man Royal Rumble match.

Flair entered the Royal Rumble match as the entry no 3 and won the match. It was the first time when Royal Rumble match actually meant something. The 1992 Royal Rumble is believed to be one of the best Royal Rumbles in the history of the WWE.
How about most of the fans agree on the fact that the best ever Royal Rumble is the Royal Rumble match of 2001. But according to a lot of fans, 1992 was the best ever Royal Rumble, and one of the biggest reason behind it was the entrants of this match. Almost all of them were legends of professional wrestling.
Flair carried the WWE championship for seventy seven days before dropping the title to The Macho Man Randy Savage at WrestleMania VIII. The earlier plan was to organise a match between Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania VIII.

Flair would have dropped the title to Hulk Hogan in that case also. But for some reason the match did not take place. If it took place in that event it would have been a dream come true. Savage drop the Championship to Flair again after one hundred and forty nine days.
After forty one days Flair drop the title to the Hitman Bret Hart in a house show. World Championship changing hand in house show was not very common. A match between Flair and Bret Hart was nothing less than a dream match either.
Ric Flair who is a sixteen times World Champion as recognised by the WWE recently spoke on his WOOOOO Nation Uncensored podcast where he talked about his WWE title reign back in 1992. He revealed why he dropped the title to “The Hitman” Bret Hart in a house show. He said;

“I called Vince and he said, ‘Get to Calgary.’ The reason why the match was so bad was because I had no equilibrium. The match sucked. I’ve never had the chance to tell this story publicly, but I had no equilibrium.
“I went home for six months after that. Bret gave me a backdrop. I had to lay there for a minute. I couldn’t just get up. I had to collect myself. I had that for six months, and then one day I woke up, and it was gone.
“I banged my head against the wall five times because I was going to get a Lloyd’s of London check tax free for $750,000. I called my dad and said, ‘Dad, it’s gone. I’m not going to tell anybody as I’m going to get my check.’ He said, ‘That’s karma. Don’t do it’, and I didn’t get it. I went back to work.”
