On Sunday, India completed the clean-sweep with a 17-run win against West Indies in the 3rd T20I, let’s look at some relevant numbers of the match.
7th clean-sweep for India:
Like in the ODI series, the hosts again completed a clean sweep in the T20I series as well. Overall it was the 7th clean sweep (series of 3 or matches) for India in the shortest format and 3 of them were against West Indies.
In Australia, they whitewashed the hosts by 3-0 in 2016, then a 3-0 win against Sri Lanka in 2017. In 2018, they clean swept West Indies for the first time, then repeated the same next year in their own backyard. In 2020, they beat New Zealand by 5-0 which included two super-over wins. And last year against New Zealand, they beat the visitors by 3-0.

Winning streak:
It was India’s 9th consecutive win in the shortest format which is jointly their longest winning streak in T20Is. Previously they also won 9 consecutive T20Is from January 2020 to December 2020. Since their loss against New Zealand in the T20 World Cup, they won each game. First, in the T20 World Cup, they beat Afghanistan, Scotland, and Namibia then they clean swept New Zealand at home.
Among Test-playing nations, the overall record belongs to Afghanistan as they won 12 consecutive T20I games from Feb 2018 to Sep 2019.
Unwanted record for West Indies:
After this loss, West Indies holds an unwanted record as they faced a total of 83 defeats in this format which included one bowl-out loss as well. It’s the most no. of defeats for any team in this format, Sri Lanka comes next with 82 losses. Overall West Indies played 160 games in the shortest format and won 68 of them which included two super-over wins as well.
Rohit Sharma at no.4:
Since 2013 when Rohit Sharma permanently was given the opening role, this is the only second time he batted outside top-3. In 2018, he batted at no.4 against Ireland in Dublin and got out without scoring. In a game against New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2021, he also batted at no.3.
Consecutive fifties for Nicholas Pooran:
Nicholas Pooran has become 3rd West Indies batter to score three consecutive fifties as he scored 61,62 and 61 in the 3 matches in this series. Chris Gayle achieved this feat twice while Evin Lewis is another one to join this elite list. In fact, Chris Gayle is one of the 3 batsmen to score 4 consecutive fifties.
