Former four times WWE World Champion Seth Rollins who is a former two times WWE Intercontinental Champion and a former WWE United States champion recently talked about his Universal Heavyweight championship match against Roman Reigns that took place at Royal Rumble and commented about wearing his Shield gear during the match.
Seth Rollins did not win the World Championship in quite a long time. Currently he is in the title picture, he may win the title by WrestleMania 38 as well since it looks like he has been given back his main event run once again. He faced Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Heavyweight Championship at the Royal Rumble pay per view event in an inter promotional match.
Seth Rollins On Wearing Shield Gear During His Match At Royal Rumble
It was quite obvious that he was not going to win the title but it was a pretty interesting match. Rollins appeared in his Shield gear during the match along with the Shield entrance. The match was going really well but at the end it went on to disqualification.
Quite obviously the feud needed to continue since Roman Reigns intentionally disqualified himself. But for no apparent reason, WWE discontinued this feud. It was quite clear that they booked this match since there was not enough option on SmackDown who could face Roman Reigns for the title at Royal Rumble.
We are not going to see this match happening sooner, at least not before Wrestlemania. We may however see him competing for the WWE championship at the grandest stage of them all. A match between Bobby Lashley and Seth Rollins would be an amazing fit for a stage like Wrestlemania.
Seth Rollins who is a former two times WWE Intercontinental Champion and a former WWE United States champion recently spoke to Radio Row where he talked about his Universal Heavyweight championship match against Roman Reigns that took place at Royal Rumble and commented about wearing his Shield gear during the match. He said;
“It was something that was in my mind. Obviously, anytime you enter into a story with Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns, you’ve got to know the history of the Shield, you know? So it would’ve been a disservice to our fanbase to not touch on that. And then the more we touched on it, the more that I realized that it really started to bother Roman.
“There was a piece of him that he hadn’t fully dealt with, you know? It was something, some unrequited regret, something in there that he hasn’t really touched on. And so the more I messed with him, the more it became a real possibility that was going to be something that would get inside of his head.
“Because, look, the guy’s a super athlete. He’s got a lot of advantages when it comes to size and strength, but when it comes to the mental game of what we do, there’s nobody better than me. So it was maybe not a last-second call, but pretty close to it. Luckily, St. Louis is close to home and I had some backup on the way.
“I made my presence in a Brock/Roman match once before at WrestleMania so who’s to say I couldn’t do it again. But who knows? We are roughly seven or eight weeks out from WrestleMania at this point now and so, anything can happen between now and then.”
