India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik has lauded India’s new captain-coach duo in form of Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid as he said that he enjoyed the way the team India had performed in the last two series against West Indies. Also, he stated that Rohit Sharma was tactically very sound in his leadership role.

Notable that India has reached the top of the ICC T20I team rankings for the first time since 2016. India are on a 9-match winning streak in the shortest format as they haven’t lost a T20I since their defeat against New Zealand in the shortest format.

“What I enjoyed most was Rohit’s captaincy. I thought he led the team beautifully. Tactically very, very sound, and I thoroughly enjoyed the way the team played in the last couple of series against West Indies.” Dinesh Karthik spoke in the latest episode of ICC Review.

The guys coming in new have really grabbed on to their places”- Dinesh Karthik

The new captain and there’s a new coach, I think they are taking the team in a fabulous direction. They’ve plugged small holes, which were probably there previously, and that has been the beautiful part about it. And along the way, in the journey, they’ve managed to become No.1,” he added.

Notable that Jasprit Bumrah was rested for both ODI and T20I series against West Indies. Still, they beat the visitors convincingly in both series. In the last T20I match, they also rested Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant. Dinesh Karthik lauded India’s bench strength.

When you talk about good teams over a period of time, they always talk about the fact that bench strength needs to be very important, and India has great bench strength. If you take this series, they have rested Virat Kohli, they have rested Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah. But in spite of that, they have produced an astounding 3-0 series victory against West Indies, which is a very good T20 side.” Dinesh Karthik said.

Karthik also showered praises on the youngsters who grabbed their opportunities in the series. Suryakumar Yadav was awarded the ‘Player of the series’ award while the likes of Ravi Bishnoi and Avesh Khan also made an impression in the debut series.

The guys coming in new have really grabbed on to their places,” Karthik said. “Suryakumar Yadav, Venkatesh Iyer. It’s just good to watch Harshal Patel – he has been an absolute revelation. So I think, the guys coming in are grabbing their opportunities with both hands and that’s always a good sign.”
