India opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the remaining two T20Is to be played in Dharamsala on Saturday and Sunday. Mayank Agarwal has been drafted in the squad for the rest of the series. Mayank was in bio-bubble with the rest of the Test squad members in Mohali so he will be available for the second T20I match as it’s a bubble-to-bubble transfer.

“Ruturaj Gaikwad complained of pain in his right wrist, which is affecting his batting. He was unavailable for selection for the first T20I. The BCCI Medical Team is examining him,” a BCCI spokesperson informed.

According to BCCI sources, Mayank Agarwal was rushed in to join the squad as he was the only one available on short notice.
“It was not difficult to send Agarwal in because it could easily be a bubble-to-bubble transfer. He was in Chandigarh and he was immediately rushed,” a BCCI source spoke to Cricbuzz.
Ruturaj is the third member to join the injury list in the last week or so. Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Chahar got injured during the 3rd match against West Indies in Kolkata and were ruled out of the series. The selectors didn’t name any replacements since it’s a short series but after Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury, no backup batter was in the squad.
In the first match, India beat the visitors comprehensively by 62 runs to take the 1-0 lead. Apart from the T20I series, India will play a 2-Test series against Sri Lanka as well. That’s the only remaining assignment for India before the IPL 2022.
India T20I squad for the remaining SL series: Rohit Sharma (captain), Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Venkatesh Iyer, Deepak Hooda, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Jasprit Bumrah (vice-captain), Avesh Khan, and Mayank Agarwal.
