Shreyas Iyer continued his red-hot form in the T20I series against Sri Lanka and scored his third consecutive half-century of the series. Shreyas Iyer hit 204 runs at a phenomenal strike rate of 174 through the series, and claimed the Player of the Series trophy for those efforts.

Shreyas Iyer Hits 3rd Consecutive 50 Against Sri Lanka Joining Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, And KL Rahul In An Elite List

Batting at number 3 in rested Virat Kohli’s absence, Shreyas Iyer made the most out of the opportunities. He kicked off the series with an unbeaten knock of 57. In the 2nd T20I, he scored 74* off 44 as India chased down the big target of 184. In the 3rd T20I, the right-handed batsman breached the 50-run mark off 29 balls. India was chasing a target of 147 in search of a whitewash.
As Shreyas Iyer completed his 3rd consecutive half-century of the series, he joined Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul in an elite list. Shreyas Iyer is now one of the four Indian batsmen to score 3 consecutive half-centuries in the shortest format.

Virat Kohli, the first Indian to achieve this milestone, had first hit 3 back-to-back fifty-plus scores in 2012. He repeated his heroics in 2014 and 2016. He was joined by Rohit Sharma in 2018. KL Rahul has achieved this milestone twice – in 2020 and 2021. Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli are the only 2 Indian batsmen to score 3 back-to-back half-centuries in a single series.

Shreyas Iyer’s Form Will Pose Selection Headaches When Rested Virat Kohli And Injured Suryakumar Yadav Returns

Shreyas Iyer’s sublime form in the series will pose a selection headache for the team management going ahead as Virat Kohli will be an automatic selection once he returns. Suryakumar Yadav was also in the form before he was ruled out of the Sri Lanka series. The players’ IPL form will have a great say in deciding their places in the playing XI.

Suryakumar Yadav was ruled out with an injury (hairline fracture) before Sri Lanka T20Is. Suyakumar Yadav scored the most-104 runs in ODIs and 107 runs-the 2nd most in T20Is against West Indies.

Team India’s next white-ball series will be against South Africa in June. The Men in Blue will host Proteas in 5 T20Is a couple of weeks after the end of IPL 2022. Before IPL, Team India will be hosting SL in two Test matches in Mohali and Bengaluru, respectively.
But after eight innings at No. 3 (six of which have come against Sri Lanka, by the way), Shreyas Iyer has hit a whopping 340 runs at a strike rate of 147, average up at 68. He was not dismissed across the three matches, hitting 57* off 28, 74* off 44, and 73* off 45. All up, he struck seven sixes and 20 fours in the series.
