Former WWE United States Champion Baron Corbin who is also the winner of the King of the Ring tournament of the WWE in 2019 recently talked about the sad Corbin gimmick that he played recently on WWE television.
Baron Corbin is working in WWE for the last nine years and he had been one of the most consistent workers of the promotion. He is a utility product of WWE who first signed a developmental system contract in 2012 with the promotion.
Baron Corbin Talked About His Sad Corbin Character
Baron Corbin spent four years on the NXT before joining the main roster in 2016. In these four years he might have failed to win any Championship but he was very impressive and every fan of the NXT knew he was destined for something big.
In 2016 he came to the main roster of WWE as he participated in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 32. In the very first match he made a mark for himself as he won the match by last eliminating the Big Red Machine Kane.
Since then he is in the main roster of WWE for nearly six years and in this time period she might not have won many Championships but he has been a familiar face in WWE. The only Championship won was the WWE United States Championship. Except for that he won the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal as already mentioned, and the King of the Ring tournament in 2019.
Speaking of King of the Ring, Baron Corbin lost his crown to Shinsuke Nakamura in a match and following this match we got one of the most interesting and entertaining remix of this year; the Sad Corbin. After this match he lost all his wealth and he kept on begging for financial help from each and every wrestler.
Of course it was all kayfabe but it was very interesting and fans loved it. The gimmick was scrapped after a number of weeks as he won a lot of money in a Casino and became rich again. It is also kayfabe. Since then he is being called as Happy Corbin. Most of the fans are not a big fan of this gimmick and they are continuously asking for the Sad Corbin to return since it was a big hit.
Baron Corbin who is also the winner of the King of the Ring tournament of the WWE in 2019 recently spoke to Ryan Satin’s Out Of Character where he talked about the sad Corbin gimmick that he played recently on WWE television. He said;
“I honestly believe that the ‘Sad Corbin’ wasn’t supposed to last as long as it did. I think it was supposed to be, from what I understand, it was kind of supposed to be a two-week thing of like, ‘You’re gonna lose the crown, you’re gonna get a little bit depressed’ but it became very entertaining. I had a lot of fun because it was like polar opposite of anything I’ve done, and I think that’s what’s fun about this job for me is it doesn’t become monotonous when you continually evolve.
“That was just like a hard left from anything I’ve ever done, and it was just this miserable guy with a dirty shirt and the worst part was not being able to cut the hair or the beard. I get a text message at like 2 AM from Vince. It’s like, ‘Don’t shave or cut your hair’ and I’m going, ‘Okay, where’s this going?’ After like three weeks, I’m going like [scratching his beard]. I got like the [George] Costanza hair going, and the best part is, I’m visiting schools for my daughter.
“They’re like private schools so my daughter’s two-and-a-half, and I’m going in and my beard and hair. You can’t wear a hat into these places, so I look ridiculous. I’m going, ‘I have to apologize for how I look. It’s my job’ and they’re just like, because it’s private schools, They’re judging me the second I walk in. Yeah, it was just really funny. So, I think it became organically interesting.”
