Royal Challengers Bangalore’s chase had everything to give their fans some nail biting moments. After reducing Gujarat Lions to 159, one was expecting RCB to chase down the total without any hiccup but Dhawal Kulkarni had other plans in his mind. The Mumbai pacer ran through the RCB top order and left them reeling at 29 for 5 in the sixth over. The situation became worse when RCB lost their sixth wicket with only 68 on the scoreboard. But then AB de Villiers showed why he is considered the best batsman in the world.
The South African, rallied with the tail to remain unbeaten on 79 from 45 balls to orchestrate a perfect chase. On a pitch where batsmen were struggling to time the ball, de Villiers picked the right ball and the right bowler to smash five towering sixes and five fours. De Villiers scored 51 in a match-turning 91-run partnership with Iqbal Abdulla to guide the Royal Challengers to victory with 10 balls to spare.
After having lost five of their first seven games, Royal Challengers were languishing in the bottom half of the table but then they won six of their final seven matches, including a knockout game against Delhi Daredevils, to finish second in the league stage. The continued their winning streak in the qualifier too and are now just one win away from becoming IPL champions for the first time.
The win was bound to give the players and fans immense joy but there was someone else who was really happy with RCB’s win and he was none other than Siddharth Mallya.
Siddharth took to Instagram to express his excitement and delight after Bangalore qualified for the final.
