Professional wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Famer Edge who is a former eleven WWE World Champion recently said that he does not think he needs another World Championship reign in WWE.
Edge was forced to take retirement from professional wrestling back in 2011 due to a career threatening injury. But if shocked the entire world when he made his return after nine years as a surprise and front of the Royal Rumble match of 2020. He could not win the match but he was one of the final three participants of it.
Edge Thinks He Does Not Need Another World Title Reign
He had a couple of excellent matches with his former kayfabe best friend Randy Orton and he proved that he is capable of giving great matches even now. Their match at the Backlash pay per view event of 2020 had been portrayed as the greatest wrestling match ever.
But after that he picked up another injury which sidelined him for months. Thankfully it was not career threatening so he returned soon. He went on to win the Royal Rumble match of 2021 and challenged Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Heavyweight Championship at WWE WrestleMania 37.
Is Royal Rumble win last year was vastly criticised by a lot of fans and critics. A lot of fans and critics believed that he should not have won the Royal Rumble match at this stage of his career where he had nothing left to prove and the opportunity should have been given to some new face.
Right now he was having a feeling that he did not need any more World Championship reign in WWE, which made his Royal Rumble win last year completely irrelevant. It showed that he was never been a worthy competitor for Roman Reigns last year. It was definitely not his fault but WWE should have been more careful about booking such Royal Rumble winners.
Edge who is a former eleven WWE World Champion recently spoke to Sports Illustrated where he said that he does not think he needs another World Championship reign in WWE. He said;
“I can’t say that Edge needs it. When I look at the character, and I look at everything I accomplished with the character, what does one more mean? I don’t know. Is it a cool, redemptive story? This guy had it pulled away from him, and now he’s fighting to get it back. It has a bit of a feel-good, Rocky vibe to it. But if it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen.”
