Indian women cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur to play in Big Bash League

It was a historic day for Indian women’s cricket as Harmanpreet Kaur is set to become the first Indian women’s player to play Big Bash League season 2 this year. The BCCI gave clearances to all Indian women’s cricketers to participate in the Big Bash League T20 tournament.

Harmanpreet Kaur has represented India in 54 One day Internationals and 56 T20 internationals for India. She played a test match against England but could not contribute with the bat and with her best figures in an innings was 5/44 . Kaur was a part of Indian squad in World T20 tournament held in India this March- April. Harmanpreet Kaur contributed with the ball picking crucial wickets. The Indian team failed to reach the semi-finals stage in the tournament. She was a part of the squad which came 3rd in ICC World Cup 2009. In the shorter format of the game, India defeated Australia in Australia this year. The Indian team could not repeat the performance in the T20 World Cup.

Playing in Big Bash League season 2, Harmanpreet Kaur would improve her performance a lot. This is a great chance for Harmanpreet Kaur to showcase her talent and become a much better player. Big Bash League for women was a success last year. Alex Blackwell said “I think we saw in the Indian team some very dynamic players, including Veda Krishnamurthy and Harmanpreet Kaur, I think these two stood out,”

Ellyse Perry said,“Now with some of the Indian players being available, someone like Kaur who made a big splash in the T20 games would have a number of teams looking at her.” Beth Mooney said, “They’ll be a good addition to any Big Bash team because we played them at the start of our summer and they beat us 2-1 in T20 series, so there are definitely some subcontinent players to look out for. Hopefully, they jump on board and make the competition even more exciting.”

Despite many Australian clubs showing interest, none of the Indian players have been signed by the clubs so far for the second edition of BBL.
