Liverpool are undergoing a massive midfield crisis after just one game into the new season. The Reds have lost as many as three midfielders to long term injuries. While everything pointed towards Liverpool eyeing the ongoing transfer window to save themselves, manager Jurgen Klopp has made it clear that the club won’t make any panic-buys.

Klopp will be without Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for over a month as all three of them are casualties to hamstring injuries. Further on, he has insisted to the club as well to not rush any of the three back to action. With only Fabinho, Henderson, Milner and Keita, who is also troubled with illness to pick from, Klopp is still against shelling out money on new incomings.

‘Solutions are inside the squad’ suggests Jurgen Klopp on tackling injuries

Liverpool have already splashed over £80 million in the market, signing Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay. Jurgen Klopp has asserted that it will be all for the Reds from the market and no more signings will be facilitated. Moreover, despite a packed schedule, the German has indicated towards finding ‘solutions’ from the squad at his disposal itself.

Speaking in his presser before Liverpool meet Crystal Palace on Monday for their first home game of the season, Klopp said: “I’m happy with the strength and quality of my squad, but we have injuries. Now it’s a question how long the players will be out. There are different solutions. One is the transfer market, but that only makes sense for the right player.”

“We always would have done that from the first day of the transfer window. It is just in some cases it is not possible and in others it is extremely difficult. So that is why you don’t have to think about it. All the other solutions are inside the squad. We have now too many injuries, that is clear. Naby [Keita] will be back on Monday and Kostas [Tsimikas] will train the first time today and that is the situation.”

He further added that there’s pressure from everywhere on the team to add new midfielders in order to overcome the shortage. However, he has reiterated that the club won’t make any decisions hastily just to rack up ‘numbers’ in their options in the midfield.

“I understand the questions but if there were the right solution for us, we would have done it already. We are not stubborn. People told me at the beginning of the season we lack a specific kind of midfielder, I didn’t understand that because if you search for specific things, you always lack something.

“If there would be the right player we would have done it but I don’t see it because we have had a lot of conversations already”. It will be now interesting to see whether Klopp sticks to his words or finally lands a midfielder or two before the window shuts in less than 20 days.
