There have been occasions where an individual has stood out in a particular cricket match but unfortunately in a losing cause. The above table shows the list of top run scorer in a losing cause. Brian Charles Lara stands out on the top of it and it’s not surprising . He made his debut when West Indies were losing charm in International cricket and as time went by, he seemed to be the flag bearer in the batting line up which failed more than they rose. On November 2001, he scored a 351 runs in total in the match against Sri Lanka but still ended up being in a losing cause.
2nd on the table is Andy Flower, a gem in the history of Zimbabwe cricket. He scored a total of 341 runs against South Aftrica at Harare on 7th September .
3rd on this list is Sutcliffe from England , who scored a match total of 303 runs against Australia on 1st January 1925 at Melbourne.
Among the modern cricketers , the list features Herschelle Gibbs , Andy Flower and Kumar Sangakkara. Andy Flower is the only cricketer to feature twice in this list.
Kumar Sangakkara’s knock was a memorable one and almost took Sri Lanka to victory , but did not get enough support from the top order but the lower order did try their best.
