WWE Smackdown 26.08.2022 Results & Ratings

This match was booked for nine minutes and it was a really good match to start things off. Corbin dominated the early part of the match but Ricochet earned a clean and hard worked victory as he pinned Corbin with the Shooting Star Press.

A video promo package was shown on the life of Drew McIntyre on how he became a top star of today and how much he had to struggle a lot in the way. It was a really good package. But these things would all be meaningless after he loses to Roman Reigns at Clash of the Castle.

Match 2 – Last Chance Fatal 4 Way Tag Team Match to qualify for the Women’s Tag Team Championship tournament Semi Final – Natalya & Sonya Deville defeated Nikki ASH & Doudrop, Tamina & Dana Brooke and Shotzi & Xia Li

This fatal 4 way match was booked for only 3 minutes, these types of matches never get enough booking time. The only highlight of the match was Dana Brooke putting Nikki ASH through the mass with Superplex to outside of the ring. Sonya Deville quickly pinned Nikki ASH after that to earn the victory for her side.

Next up was a segment for the WWE Intercontinental Championship match that has been scheduled for Clash of the Castle. It was an interesting segment with the champion Gunther and the challenger Sheamus had some exchanges of words where Sheamus reminded the wrestlers he has beaten in the ring.

The segment turned violent at the end as Butch attacked Ludwig Kaiser and Ridge Holland joined the fight too. But Sheamus and Gunther did not move as they kept looking at each other and stood face to face. Finally, they stop their men from fighting. It was a good segment.

Backstage Sami Zayn got featured in a segment with the Bloodline where he tried to convince them that he saved Roman Reigns from the Drew McIntyre last week. Roman seemed convinced and he inspired him for his match against Drew letter tonight.

Match 3 – WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship tournament semi final – Aliyah and Raquel Rodriguez defeated Sonya Deville and Natalya

This match was booked for five and a half minutes and it was mostly dominated by Raquel Rodriguez. There is not enough to talk about this match. Rodriguez pinned Sonya with the Tejana Bomb. After the match, Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky confronted Rodriguez and Aliyah.

The New Day was seen inside the ring. Xavier Woods was sitting on a wheelchair. They explained how they got beat down by the Viking Raiders week after week and right now they are broke. The Viking Raiders came out and they attempted to attack them. Xavier Woods was then revealed faking an injury with hiding Kendo sticks. They attacked the Vikings with the kendo sticks as the Vikings escaped.

Match 4 – Drew McIntyre defeated Sami Zayn

This was the main event of the night which was booked for seven minutes. It was not a main event standard match but the aftermath of the match was quite important. After Drew pinned Sami with the Claymore, Roman Reigns and The Usos attacked Drew.

It was a massive beat down. Sami Zayn also joined the Bloodline to beat Drew down. The four on one assault continued for over five minutes And the beat down looked really scary. The Bloodline celebrated over the lifeless body of Drew McIntyre as this week’s SmackDown went off air.

Overall, it was not a bad week. In the recent weeks WWE is focusing more on matches, but this week it was mostly promos. But it was not a bad decision at all, it helped the ongoing stories grow. But they wasted times with promo packages, some of them were quite unnecessary. And there was no segment for the Smackdown Women’s Championship either which was a downfall. We give this week’s Smackdown 2 stars out of 5.
