A breakthrough in the Paul Pogba extortion case has been attained as the police authorities have taken into custody Mathias Pogba, the 31-year-old’s brother along with three others. The police suspect the group of four including Mathias plotted the extortion of Paul, by blackmailing him. Further on, the case also involves PSG superstar and Paul Pogba’s national teammate Kylian Mbappe.
The accusations levelled against Mathias also stated that he blackmailed his brother by threatening to disclose his secret that he performed ‘witchcraft’ on Mbappe to put a curse on him. However, Paul Pogba has denied any such allegations and named Mathias and a gang behind plotting to extort €13 million from him. Now that Mathias has been detained by the police, more revelations are expected ahead.

Paul Pogba and the extortion case with his brother Mathias
This extortion case saga began last month after Mathias Pogba released a video on social media threatening to make ‘shocking revelations’ about his brother Paul. This was after the Juventus midfielder reported to investigation authorities that he was being blackmailed to give in to Mathias’ demand of €13 million, and also being intimidated by a gang which visited his Manchester United training sessions.
Mathias however distanced himself from his brother’s accusations, as he said in the video:
“The French, English, Italian and Spanish public, in other words the whole world, as well as my brother’s [Paul Pogba] fans, and even more so the French team and Juventus, my brother’s team-mates and his sponsors deserve to know certain things. In order to make an informed decision if he deserves the admiration, respect and love of the public. If he deserves his place in the French team and the honor of playing in the World Cup. If he deserves to be a starter at Juventus. If he is a trustworthy person, that any player deserves to have at his side.” He promised the revelations would be “explosive”. I will tell you about very important things about him [Kylian Mbappe] and there will be elements and many testimonies to confirm my words.”

Paul Pogba’s team too has responded to Mathias’ video stating:
“The recent declarations of Mathias Pogba on social media are unfortunately not a surprise. They are coming after threats and attempts of extortion by an organised gang against Paul Pogba. This has been referred to the appropriate authorities both in Italy and in France a month ago.”
Paul Pogba is currently nursing a knee injury and has been sidelined for months. He is yet to feature for Juventus as well this season after rejoining them this summer for free from Manchester United. Moreover, his World Cup place with France is also in jeopardy after this extortion case. France captain Hugo Lloris too admit that the situation is leaving “negative” impact on the dressing room ahead of the World tournament slated to take place in November this year.
