WWE Extreme Rules 2022 presented a total of 6 action packed matches, but there was no World Championship match. Still there were high expectations from this event. Bray Wyatt is rumoured to make his return tonight. Let us go through all the matches that took place in the event and let us discuss about the good and the bad things about it.

Match 1 – The Good Old Fashioned Donnybrook Match – The Brawling Brutes defeated Imperium

WWE Extreme Rules 2022 Results & Ratings

The match was booked for around 19 minutes and it was a ridiculously entertaining match. However it was predictable. Throughout the time, Imperium had been presented as the stronger force, so Brawling Brutes just had to win this match.

There were “This is Awesome” chant’s during the match but there were some flaws. Gunther was terribly book against Sheamus who completely manhandled the Intercontinental Champion. It had been a terrible look for the Austrian professional wrestler. At the end, Sheamus pinned Giovanni Vinci to earn the victory for his side.

Match 2 – Extreme Rules Match for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship – Ronda Rousey defeated Liv Morgan to become new champion

Finally, unpredictability is getting restored in WWE. Most of the fans and critics expected Liv to retain here. But she lost, and she lost it clean. There was no outside interference and nothing. She passed out on her own. It was a very well booked match and it had been really entertaining.

There were rumours that Charlotte Flair would interfere the match to cost Ronda the match. But no such thing happened, Ronda won the match on her own. She made Liv faint while holding the arm bar. About the match it was really good, it was booked for 13 minutes and from top to bottom it was pretty entertaining. It would be interesting to know where it heads next.

Match 3 – Strap Match – Karrion Kross defeated Drew McIntyre

This match was quite predictable as well and honestly it was one of the weakest match of the night. The actual match took place for about 10 minutes. Before the bell rang they fought for around 4 minutes among the crowd. After the bell rang, Drew dominated the most part of the match but it was quite obvious that Kross would not lose his first major match since return.

Throughout the match Scarlett kept on distracting Drew. Even at the end of the match, when Drew was on the driving seat and was about to hit the Claymore, Scarlett interrupted the fight and sprayed pepper spray on the face of Drew. Kross quickly pinned Drew with the Kross Hammer after that.

Match 4 – Ladder Match for the WWE RAW Women’s Championship – Bianca Belair defeated Bayley to retain

This match was good for 17 minutes and it was also pretty good match. But why Bianca won again? Did she really need to win this match? Bayley needed this victory more than Bianca. Losing this match completely killed her momentum.

And this was not even a normal victory for Bianca. Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky came out to help Bayley during the match, Bianca manhandled both of them together, And nobody Came for her aid either. At a time it was more of a three on one match, but Bianca single handedly defeated all of them. After this match we can definitely say Bianca is overrated.

Match 5 – I Quit Match – Finn Balor defeated Edge

This has been one of the most dramatic matches in professional wrestling history. Fans will remember this match for a long time. It’s nothing like the best match in the world but the drama that went on through the match was just insane. The booking of this match was just pure gold.

Finn Balor needed to win this match. We would discuss in a different story why he needed this win. In this match Judgement Day was presented as the ultimate heel. A lot of things happened in this 30 minute long match. At first, when Edge was dominating, Judgment Day came out to help Finn.

Rey Mysterio came out for the aid of Edge but he was beaten down by his own son. At the end, Beth Phoenix got involved in the match and it look like that it is going to be Edge’s game finally. But Rhea Ripley got the best out of Beth and she threatened to hit Beth on the head if Edge did not say I Quit.

Judgment Day held down Edge and The Rated R Superstar was forced to say I Quit to save his wife. But after he said I Quit, Rhea hit Beth on the head with the Steel chair anyway. This whole act was so emotional that it can make people cry. Everyone did exceptionally well, especially Rhea Ripley, whose act was insane.

Match 6 – Fight Pit Match – Matt Riddle defeated Seth Rollins

This match was the main event of the night and it was booked for around 17 minutes. It was not the best match of the night but it was very entertaining and this is something that the recent generation WWE fans never for before, a Fight Pit match. This match is something between a Steel Cage match and Hell in a Cell match.

The match went on from ground to the top level. Overall it was a good experience and something that fans could talk about after going out of the event. Seth Rollins was favourite to win this match, but Matt Riddle shocked everyone when he made Rollins submit with the Triangle Choke.

After the match, when Riddle was celebrating and it seem the like the show would go off air, the lights went out and a song started playing, “He’s got the whole world in his hands.” You know what it means. He is back! Bray Wyatt is back! This return will be remembered as one of the best returns in WWE history. The whole presentation was just amazing! Bray Wyatt revealed his face behind the mask as this year’s Extreme Rules went off the air.

Overall Extreme Rules 2022 was an insane event. This was arguably the best pay per view event of 2022 so far, well it was debatable but there were moments that could make fans cry as well as moments that will let fans go wild in joy. They are were of course some questionable decisions like once again Bianca Belair winning. Just why? She did not need this win anyway. But on the other hand, Bayley’s momentum was completely killed with her defeat.

Edge vs. Finn Balor was one of the best Dramas in the recent history of WWE. Everyone that were involved in it was just excellent. WWE made the right decision of having Finn win. And the way Edge lost the I Quit match was just perfectly booked. Last but not the least, Bray Wyatt’s return was just too good.

This could have been a 5 Star event only if it solid World Championship match was booked. But we just cannot rate an event high that did not provide a World Championship match. This is why the titles need to be split. There should be at least one world championship that should be defended on every ppv event. It is a pity that we cannot give 4+ ratings to such an excellent event. We give Extreme Rules 2022 3.5 out of 5.
