Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) will support ICC president Shashank Manohar’s idea of dismantling the system of ‘Big three’. BCCI’s newly appointed president Anurag Thakur has made clear that the board will extend its support for the idea.
In the current system of ‘Big three’, the boards of India, Australia, and England is enjoying the major benefits in terms of financial and economical view. Since the appointment of Manohar, there has been a wave of change as he seeks to change the existing system.
Manohar has also appointed a five-man team to review the ‘big three’. The concept was introduced by former BCCI President and ICC Chairman N.Srinivasan who implemented it in 2013 despite huge resistance from other cricket boards.
“We back Manohar’s decision, and will support it at the ICC annual conference in Edinburgh later this month. All the ICC members must get the same funding, just like all the associations get the same share of revenue in India,” said a BCCI official.
Earlier it was reported that BCCI would be protesting against the suggestion as they felt big three provide the bulk of the money to ICC than others and it is unfair to share the money equally among the nations.
Earlier this year, a committee and board meeting in ICC resulted in the permanent removing of India, Australia and England from the Financial and Commercial Affairs Committee (FCA) and the Executive Committee which are two of the most powerful committees within the ICC.
The BCCI president Anurag Thakur has also made headlines when he proposed the change in the existing name of BCCI which reads Board of Cricket Control in India. The president wants to remove ‘Control’ and replace it with ‘Care’. “We want to do away with the word ‘Control.’ We want to care for our fans, players, coaches, selectors, administrators and all the other stakeholders who matter in cricket,” he said.
