The appointment of Anil Kumble as team India’s coach has not gone down too well with Ravi Shastri who was one of the applicants for the post. Well Shastri has his reasons to be disappointed. The former cricketer had a very successful stint as the  Director of Team India for 18 months.

After taking over as the team’s director of cricket in 2014 after India lost 1-3 in Tests to England,  the Indian team achieved new heights. The Indian team won the ODI series in England, reached the semi-finals of the ICC World Cup in 2015, won their first Test series in Sri Lanka 2-1 after 22 years and climbed to the Number 1 position in the Test rankings, after thrashing South Africa 3-0 in a series at home.

So its not surprising that the outgoing director has expressed his disappointment.Asked if he was disappointed at not having been selected the Indian coach, Shastri has been quoted as saying, “Yes, for the work put in, and results produced in the last 18 months. But if it (tenure) was for only one year then, not really.”

The twitterati were quick to react to Ravi Shastri’s return to the commentary box. While some trolled him, there were few who appreciated Shastri for his commendable job as team India’s director.
