After being appointed as the head coach of team India, Anil Kumble was flooded with congratulatory messages. Present and past cricketers expressed their happiness over BCCI’s decision to appoint Kumble.

Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli was one of the big names to congratulate Kumble. Congratulating Kumble, Kohli said that he was looking forward to working with him. Kohli’s tweet read:”Heartiest welcome to Sir. Look forward to your tenure with us. Great things in store for Indian Cricket with you”

Kumble wasted little time and sent his messages to both the Indian captains. The former leg-spinner expressed his excitement over the prospect of working with both the captains. He also congratulated MS Dhoni for winning the series in Zimbabwe.

While his stature as a player is unquestionable, he is still  a novice in the coaching department. How he combines with a dynamic captain like Virat Kohli will be very interesting to see.

The new coach starts his duty  with the four-Test series against West Indies, commencing next month. Thirteen home Tests to follow and the period will give Kumble the opportunity to understand and build a good rapport with Kohli. Test cricket against New Zealand, England and Australia even on the home patch will provide a fair assessment of his coaching skills. The ICC Champions Trophy in June next year will also test his skill as a coach.
