The 2022 FIFA World Cup is approaching the closing stage, as Argentina and France will lock horns in the final which will played on Sunday at the Lusail Stadium. Both the teams have had sustained immense pressure throughout the tournament and problems of their own to reach this stage. Moreover, it will Lionel Messi’s last ever FIFA World Cup as announced by the player himself. This is his final shot at the ultimate glory, having every other trophy there exists with club and country.

On the other hand, France will look to become just the third team in the history of football’s biggest competition to successfully defend their world title, after Italy and Brazil. However, its been 60 years since Brazil last defended their crown, and now France have the chance to emulate something like that. Meanwhile, ahead of the final, the prize money for the 32 participating nations has been revealed for every round at the tournament.

Prize money at 2022 FIFA World Cup revealed

The global festival of the football is coming to an end in Qatar, as only four teams remain in the Gulf nation to play two games. While Argentina and France will fight for the title, beaten semifinalists Croatia and Morocco will play each other in the third-place play-off. CBS Sports has taken the time here to breakdown the prize that every team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup will receive at the end of the tournament on Sunday.

According to CBS Sports, the 32 nations which participated are at least guaranteed a prize money of $9 million. That means, the likes of heavyweights in Germany, Belgium, Uruguay and Wales who exited at the group stage itself will receive $9 million each. A qualification to last-16 from the group stages will see the 16 teams win an extra $13 million on top of the $9 million.

And as the knockouts progress, the teams reaching the quarterfinals will receive $17 million for achieving the feat. Having said that, the likes of Brazil, Portugal, England and the Netherlands have taken home a significant amount of $39 in their bank account as prize money after exiting in the quarterfinals. Now, the remaining four teams, Argentina, France, Croatia and Morocco too will travel back from Qatar with hefty amounts.

The winner will pocket a whopping $42 million, that is either of Argentina or France will earn a total of a staggering $81 million on lifting the title. Meanwhile, the runner-up will be entitled to $30 million prize, whereas the team finishing third will receive $27 million and $25 million for the fourth place.

It now remains to be seen on Saturday and Sunday, how much money will the four teams take back home. Croatia will fight for a third place against Morocco on Saturday, December 17, whereas the 2022 FIFA World Cup final showdown between Argentina and France will be played on Sunday, December 18. The final is certainly going to serve end-to-end action between the two sides, with two of the world’s most in-form players, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe going up against each other.
