Emiliano Martinez seems to be not getting off Kylian Mbappe’s back as he came out with a new mockery of the France striker. Argentina earned a third star on their shirt after lifting a third World Cup title for the country against France in the final at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar. However, the game was nothing short of an otherworldly spectacle, as neither of the teams were ready to give-in yet, taking the game to the penalty shootouts.
The Argentina ‘keeper once again stepped up for his country, delivering another heroic stand in their second penalty shootout of the tournament. Martinez denied Kingsley Coman’s spot-kick and saw Aurelien Tchouameni fire his kick wide to lead Argentina to glory. And the celebration back in the Latin country by the 30-year-old were so audacious that he even held a baby doll with Kylian Mbappe’s face during Argentina’s open bus parade with the coveted trophy.
Martinez comes up with another mocker after a minute’s silence for Kylian Mbappe
While Argentina captain Lionel Messi was enjoying his night with the opening goal and his side racing to a two goal lead within 36 minutes after Angel di Maria added another, the battle was actually being fought between Kylian Mbappe and Emi Martinez. Argentina suffered another meltdown like the Netherlands game, where they conceded a two-goal lead to take the game o extra time.
Kylian Mbappe burst on to the scene in the final ten minutes of the regular time, pulling one back from the spot for France after Nicolas Otamendi had fouled Kolo Muani in the box. Within another 70 seconds, Mbappe scored a thunderbolt to make it all square in a blink of an eye. The game then headed to the extra-time, where Messi finally seemed to have won it for the La Albiceleste by scrambling a rebound past Hugo Lloris into the back of the net from a Lautaro Martinez shot.
However, Mbappe once again had different plans as he won a penalty off Gonzalo Montiel for his hand-ball in the penalty area while blocking a shot from the PSG forward. The 24-year-old made not mistake to score past Emi Martinez to drag his side on level for the second time. But the Argentina ‘keeper had the last laugh as he denied France back-to-back World Cup glory during the penalty shootout and led his team to their first title in 36 years.
Back in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the Aston Villa shot-stopper once appeared to mock Mbappe, by holding a baby doll with a mask of the France forward on it, and with his finger on his lips. This was not the first time however that Martinez had mocked the Golden Boot winner of the tournament. During Argentina’s dressing room celebrations as well at the Lusail Stadium, Martinez called for ‘a minute silence for Mbappe who is dead’.
The mockery has continued a couple of days later as well, with Martinez laughing-off with the baby doll with Mbappe’s face. Messi can also be seen standing alongside his ‘keeper, but paid no attention whatsoever towards his antics. The celebrations got so wild that the team had to abandon their 18-mile open bus parade and evacuated by a helicopter after fans started climbing up the bus.
