Chelsea shot-stopper Edouard Mendy has reportedly rejected a contract extension offer from the club, amidst a feeling that the Blues are not showing enough ‘respect’ towards him. The 30-year-old’s current deal runs until the summer of 2025, and Chelsea want to tie him down to a long-term, six-year deal. However, the problems have already surfaced with a new contract, as the Senegalese is not convinced with it.

Mendy joined Chelsea back in 2020 for £22 million, and became immediately became a hero at the Stamford Bridge. He was brought in to resolve Chelsea’s goalkeeping woes with Kepa Arrizabalaga, and the former Rennes ‘keeper right away delivered solid performances leading his new club to Champions League success in his debut season. However, there seems a fallout between this happy marriage as Mendy in unhappy with the club’s new contract, according to The Sun.

Edouard Mendy ready to listen offers from potential suitors in Milan, Monaco and Nice

Edouard Mendy was a mainstay for Chelsea between the sticks, dethroning their record £70million ‘keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in the starting eleven. His staggering 25 clean-sheets in 41 games during the 20/21 for the Blues, out of which 9 came in 12 Champions League games led the club to their second title triumph in the competition. He continued his exploits the following season as well, helping Chelsea to a UEFA Super Cup and their first ever Club World Cup trophy.

However, a knee injury mid-way through the first half of this season sidelined Mendy for almost two months, during which he lost his starting spot to Kepa who displayed sudden burst of form. While the UEFA goalkeeper of the year winner struggles to make a comeback into the starting eleven, Chelsea have already tabled a six-year deal in front of him. But Mendy is not satisfied by it, as The Sun revealed:

“Edouard [Mendy] is back at Chelsea and he is ready to play. But there is a feeling that the contract situation is just going nowhere. Edouard has won some huge trophies for Chelsea — but there is a sense that he is not being shown enough respect by the club over a new deal.”

The report further adds that Mendy currently is entitled to a £100,00-a-week salary at the club, whereas his rival Kepa pockets wages almost double the figure. Mendy feels undone here, given the difference of importance between the two at Stamford Bridge. As a result, Chelsea have rolled-back their current offer due to the shot-stopper’s stance and now there’s a stand-off between the two parties.

Meanwhile, this news comes as a music to the ears of the potential suitors who are interested in acquiring the services of the Senegal international. AC Milan, AS Monaco and Nice are currently closely monitoring the situation with Mendy at Chelsea, and are ready to strike at the right moment with an offer for him. Mendy too is all ears to any potential offers from foreign parties if the stand-off between him and the Blues continues.

And Chelsea, who know how to get business done better than many too could allow him to leave if they get a fee in the range of £20-£30 million. Mendy had a disastrous World Cup campaign with Senegal in Qatar where they crashed out of the Round of 16, and that has reportedly impacted Chelsea’s new offer for him. But that hasn’t been perceived well by the player who has kept open the option of moving out if this situation prevails.
