Professional wrestling legend and two times WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair who is the former 16 times World champion as recognised by WWE recently talked about the potential showdown between WWE Universal champion Roman Reigns and the Rock. This match is rumoured for WrestleMania 39.
Roman Reigns had been the most dominant WWE World Champion in the recent history of the promotion. He has been holding the WWE Universal Championship for over 2 years now. He has beaten almost all the big stars of WWE and there is literally no competition left for him in the promotion as the champion.
Ric Flair Discusses Roman Reigns Vs. The Rock Rumours For WrestleMania 39
There had been rumours of the Rock coming back to WWE for WrestleMania 39 to challenge Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Heavyweight Championship. This can definitely be a mega match. The same match was also rumoured for WrestleMania 38 but it could not take place for a number of reasons.
But this time the match is heavily rumoured and it looks like it will finally take place at WrestleMania 39. This will definitely sell tickets but once again this will be totally predictable. No way the Rock is going to take the WWE Universal title away from Reigns. There is no chance of him Giving more time to WWE after WrestleMania 39. So definitely Roman will be retaining the title.
But there is another strong rumour that WWE might organize two World Championship matches for the upcoming WrestleMania 39. There are rumours that The Rock will challenge for one title of the two titles that Roman is holding, and on the next night somebody else will challenge for the title. There are strongly humours that it is going to be Cody Rhodes.
Ric Flair who is the former 16 times World champion as recognised by WWE recently spoke to his To Be The Man podcast where he talked about the potential showdown between WWE Universal champion Roman Reigns and the Rock. This match is rumoured for WrestleMania 39. He said;
“I don’t think personally it’s a given that the Rock is going to do it. As much as he might respect Roman, I’m sure they do, all those guys. It’s a brotherhood like no other. I don’t think The Rock would come back and do a favor. Why would he?
“Tomorrow morning, what, he goes back to his acting career with a loss? I don’t think so. I don’t see that happening. It would do the company no good to put the belt on The Rock because he’s not going to be a full time wrestler ever again. I’ve said before, if The Rock happens, that’s great. If it doesn’t, I would like it to be Cody Rhodes.”
