Former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique and Shakira’s split tookover the media by storm ever since it happened in June 2022. However, it was quite an ugly one, since it came to light that the veteran defender was cheating on the Colombian singer with his colleague, Clara Chía Marti. As soon as Shakira came to know about it, the couple started living separately, before officially announcing their split.
It seems Shakira, however, hasn’t forgiven Pique yet, after she fired fresh shots at the 35-year-old. Soon after their famous separation, Pique announced his retirement from football and also moved in with Clara. His actions further left a bad taste in Shakira’s mouth as she slowly started to get to know more revelations about her ex-boyfriend and his new partner Clara.
Shakira earns staggering income through her song which mocked Gerard Pique
Shakira, known for giving some hits to the music world in ‘Waka Waka’, at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which actually was the start of her and Gerard Pique’s relationship, and more songs like ‘Hips don’t lie’ and ‘La La La’, produced another one recently which appeared to take a brutal aim at Pique. Her new song, “Out of Your League”, deemed as a ‘diss song’ has its lyrics as:
“I’m too big for you, that’s why you’re with someone just like you. This is for me to mortify you, chew and swallow so it doesn’t sting, I won’t return to you any more even if you cry or beg me. I understood that it’s not my fault that they criticize you, I only make music, sorry that I splashed you. No hard feelings babe. I wish you good luck with my so-called replacement. I don’t even know what happened, you’re acting so weird I don’t even recognise you.”
In the song, which is her link up with Argentine producer Bizarrap for ‘Music Sessions 53’, she further sings:
“I’m worth two 22-year-olds. You swapped a Ferrari for a Twingo/You swapped a Rolex for a Casio.”
This was her dig at Gerard Pique’s new girlfriend, the 22-year-old Clara. Moreover, the singer didn’t even held back against the former Manchester United defender’s mother, and her ex-mother-in-law, the media, and her ongoing issues with the Spanish tax authorities, who allege that she owes them $15.6 million in back taxes. The song goes on:
“You left me with my mother-in-law as a neighbour, with the press at my door and a debt to the taxman.”
And according to MARCA, Shakira’s song has garnered a stunning 127 million streams worldwide so far, and earned her a whopping $512,000 from YouTube, $500,000 from Amazon Music, $360,000 from Spotify and $1,200,000 from Apple Music – accumulating the total to $2,500,000, as revealed by Telecinco’s morning show ‘El Programa de Ana Rosa’.
The Spanish TV also revealed the total income Shakira has pocketed after releasing three songs post her separation with Gerard Pique. It noted:
“In these four days, Shakira has made more than $2,500,000 with ‘BZRP Music Sessions #53’. As for the other recent songs in which she also makes reference to the ex-footballer [Gerard Pique], ‘Te felicito’, which was released in April 2022, has more than 445,000 million streams, generating about $10 million.’Monotonia’, featuring Ozuna, was released two months ago and has 166 million streams, which [means that she made] $3,554,000.”
