Chelsea splashed a British record £106.8m transfer fee for the acquisition of Benfica’s World Cup winning midfielder Enzo Fernandez in the deadline-day madness of January transfer window. Moreover, the Argentine became Chelsea’s stunning eighth signing of this window, taking their total spending to a whopping £290.7m. The Blues were the highest spenders across Europe as they look to overturn their reeling form in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Chelsea also shipped out Jorginho to Arsenal for £10m plus £2m in add-ons as the Gunners found no breakthrough in their Moises Caicedo pursuit despite tabling two bids of £60m and £70m. Elsewhere, Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo joined Bayern Munich on loan with an option to buy for £61m, as the Bavarians sent Marcel Sabitzer to Manchester United on a loan deal until the end of the season./

January window – Chelsea record spenders; Ziyech late drama collapses move to PSG; Navas joins Nottingham Forest
The January transfer window was not only headlined by Chelsea’s spending spree, but also by a number of other deals. While the Blues did ship out Jorginho, they however messed up Hakim Ziyech’s loan move to PSG in an epic story. As per multiple reports, both the teams had signed all the paperwork to get the deal over the line in time. However, Chelsea apparently sent the ‘wrong’ documents when it came to registration process which finally collapsed the move.
PSG are furious with the Blues’ unprofessional behaviour and are set to appeal in the LFP [French governing body for Ligue 1] in order to find a solution. Meanwhile, PSG also sent their second-choice goalkeeper Keylor Navas on loan to Nottingham Forest until the end of the season. Tottenham too did some crazy business in the last hours, terminating Matt Doherty’s contract who joined Atletico Madrid. They then brought Sporting CP’s Pedro Porro as his replacement for an initial loan until the summer, when his move will be made permanent for £39.7m.
