Anil Kumble

Anil Kumble was spending time at home without any tension and work. He left cricket in 2008. After leaving international he was associated with IPL franchise   Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians. He was the mentor of the Mumbai Indians and played for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

After retirement from all form of cricket Kumble had a two-year stint at the Karnataka Cricket Association. But After his two-year stint, he left administration and joined ICC as a chairman of the Cricket Committee.

But things has changed after BCCI has advertised for Indian team’s head coach. The second advertisement where BCCI mentioned that candidate who knows Hindi will get preference.

Kumble has applied for the job at the 12th hour of the. The legendary spinner, who has taken 619 Test wickets and 337 ODI wickets, is the highest Indian wicket-taker.   With an illustrative 18-year-old coaching career, Kumble has become an icon in India.

His former teammates Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar keep their trust at the best bowler of their time. No doubt Indian cricket is at the safe hand and will build brand cricket.

Kumble after being appointed as Indian coach resumed his work at National Cricket Academy, Bangalore with budding Indian players. India is going to play four matches West Indies tour in July and after that, India will play 13 Test home series against New Zealand, England, and Australia respectively.

The former Indian team captain was touring Australia in 2008 when “Monkeygate” controversy has sparked in the Indian and Australian dressing room. Kumble as a captain kept the Indian camp unified and helped Harbhajan Singh to get rid of the situation.

The 45-year-old Indian coach has a passion for photography.  His eye is journalistic. He can identify any eye pleasing object soon.

His greatness may create a fear among the youngsters, who may hesitate to approach him. But Kumble said, “I have kids who are teenagers, who are beyond teenage. So I understand the pressures of being a parent and also the current generation. In terms of cricket, I’m sure I’m close to the game, the modern game.”

“And I’m sure I can blend my experiences in putting across to a youngster(s) of today. I think I can do that. I think the communication that needs to be given to a youngster today, I think I can do that.” However, being an Indian coach it will not be an easy task for Kumble as the previous coaches like John Wright, Greg Chappell, Duncan Fletcher, or Kapil Dev, the last Indian coach, have to endure criticism  in bad times.

Kumble with 18 years of international cricket’s experience may help his boys but his management skills will be the key to his success.   As a player, he was familiar with pressure. “It could be someone else tomorrow. I’m not permanent in this role. I have an opportunity to make a difference. I have an opportunity to be part of the journey and if I can be part of the journey where we see Indian cricket rise to where we all want it to be, then I think it’s wonderful,” Kumble said.
