Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore believes there could be another German association for Chelsea as he tips them to hire Jurgen Klopp if he is sacked by the Reds now. The talks of Liverpool sacking Jurgen Klopp are as weird as it gets, but the current turmoil the club’s facing tells the story. Liverpool are currently sat tenth in the Premier League, eleven points adrift of the top four.
They also recently faced their seventh league defeat of the season against Wolves, and third in last five games. As a result, Liverpool have now gone four games without a win, having lost three and drawn one, which came against Chelsea at home. They are also out of the domestic cups, the FA Cup and the League Cup, and face old foes defending champions Real Madrid in the round of 16 of the Champions League this month.
Collymore claims Chelsea would want Jurgen Klopp despite appointing Potter only six months ago
While there has been a lot of scrutiny about Jurgen Klopp failing with Liverpool this season, Chelsea haven’t been any different. The Blues are almost a blueprint of Liverpool’s struggles, just the only thing they got over the Merseysiders is that they sit one place above them in the league. While Liverpool are eleven point off the top four, Chelsea are ten. And Graham Potter, likewise Jurgen Klopp faces an uphill task to make it to next year’s Champions League.
However, pressure is being exercised more on Potter since he has been made available with signings worth almost £500m by the new owners of the club. And despite all that, he has churned out only one win in last six league outings, and a mere five in in fifteen all over. The impatient Chelsea owners could go for Jurgen Klopp if he is available on the market, claims Collymore. Speaking to Caught Offside, the ex striker said:
“The reality is, if FSG sack Klopp, there is no one else out there better equipped to do a better job. So anyone calling for him to go should be careful about what they are wishing for because I’m certain that if he suddenly became available, you’d have Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, PSG and even Chelsea all lining up.
“I still don’t think he should be facing the sack. I know they’re having an awful season but we need to look further back than just the past six months. Remember where Liverpool were when he came in – they were a real mess! They had a below-average squad, were barely competitive and couldn’t attract top players.
“Klopp single-handedly changed that and went on to win every trophy possible along the way, and he didn’t just turn them into a winning side, he completely revolutionised their style of play.”
However, its a big decision for the FSG to make whether to trust Jurgen Klopp or oust him as probably the last decision they make at the club. The FSG have put Liverpool on sale, and that could play a major role as well in Klopp’s future at Anfield. While no firm talks or offers made have been reported, the former Borussia Dortmund manager will anyhow have to turnaround the club’s form, starting from the two-legged affair against Real.
