Former India batter and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar warns Rohit Sharma ahead of the 1st Test match against Australia which will start tomorrow at VCA Stadium in Nagpur. The Indian skipper has missed the crucial games in the ongoing edition of the ICC World Test Championship.

Rohit Sharma has been out of action for a long time in red-ball cricket as he missed rescheduled Test against England after being infected by COVID-19. He was also ruled out of the two Tests against Bangladesh after sustaining a  finger injury.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Sanjay Manjrekar said:

“Rohit Sharma’s last complete series came against England and he performed really well there. Since he is coming back into Tests after a long time, the issue is match practice and match fitness. But, with the technique he has and the temperament at this stage of his career, it is great to see. If he can close the gap caused by lack of practice soon, then India will have a reliable top-order batter for the series,”

SuryaKumar Yadav Will Make His Debut For India – Sanjay Manjrekar Ahead Of First Test In Nagpur

Manjrekar believes that World No. 1 T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav has a high chance of making his Test debut in the Nagpur Test along with Srikar Bharat as the wicketkeeper for India.

Speaking to Star Sports Manjrekar said Surya deserves a chance in the red ball setup and has a very good ability to play the spin bowling

“I think Surya will play the first Test with Bharat at No.6. Surya has played 79 first-class games, this is a unique career that we are witnessing. He has been around for a long time,”

“He will play because there are not many other options in the squad. Even in 50-over cricket, if he decides not to hit the ball in the air for a while, he will still score at a strike rate of 120. He is not just a six-hitter. He has a great sweep shot, which is just a great shot to have to put the opposition spinner under pressure,” the former cricketer further added
