Following the meteoric rise of T20 cricket, the level of fielding near the boundary ropes has gone up by leaps and bounds in recent years. Every now and then, one witnesses cricketers in international cricket pulling off some absolutely outrageous catches.
But not many and perhaps none has managed to pull off a catch that a man has recently pulled off in a tournament. The video of the catch has gone viral on internet and understandably so.
Talking about the game, it was a tennis-ball match. The bowler bowled one just outside the off stump and the batsman decided to go for the big shot. The batsman got down on one knee and hit the ball towards deep mid-wicket.
The batsman had made a good connection with the ball. The ball looked destined to go over the boundary mark for a six. The fielder at deep mid-wicket, however, had some other ideas. Just before the ball could cross the boundary, he timed his jump to perfection and caught the ball with both his hands.
And while he managed to land inside the field of play, the momentum took him over the boundary. But before setting his foot outside the boundary mark, he threw the ball in the air. And what happened after that has left everyone shellshocked.
As the ball was coming down, the fielder decided to showcase his football skills. He came up with a stunning back volley to kick the ball inside the field of play before another fielder caught it.
Here is a video of the stunning catch:
It doesn't matter what the rules say.
