Former Australian Cricketer Greg Chappell says that fans in Australia were not happy with the Australian Team’s performance in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy. Chappell said that Australia has to start to put the India tour on par with the Ashes.
Australia has lost the series and more than the series loss, Australia was hammered in the first two tests and struggled against the Indian bowling lineup. Greg Chappell slammed Australia for their reckless approach in their batting and the fans would not be happy with the way the visitors last the two matches.
“What can Australia do from here? Firstly, pick their best team and then play with the passion, tenacity, and grit which is our hallmark. Australian fans know that it is tough in India. They can accept getting beaten by a better side, but they won’t cop to seeing an Australian team playing recklessly and bowled out in a session or two and turning its toes up within three days. There is red-hot anger, bewilderment, and embarrassment in our fans,”

Chappell stressed that Australian Public would have been happy if Australia had shown a little fight in the series. Six Australian batters were dismissed by the sweep and reverse sweep shots in the second innings of the second test in Delhi and insisted that Australian players should realize the importance of playing against a side like India.
“The Australian public is rightly incensed that our team has shown so little fight in the series so far. Sights of a batsman being dismissed playing the reverse sweep first ball, and playing as though this series is not critical to the future, rankle. Australian cricket must realize that playing against India is not a sideshow, but the big show on par with or bigger than The Ashes,” he said.
Australia’s Steve Smith will be the standby captain for Australia in the third test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Steve Smith had poor series with the bar so far in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy. He scored a duck in the 1st innings followed by a struggling 9 runs in the second innings. Cameron Green and Mitchell Starc are likely to come back into the side in the Indore Test. Australia will look to stage a comeback into the series in Indore.
Punched Themselves In The Mouth – Greg Chappell Slams Australian Team
Following Australia’s horror displays in the first two Tests, Greg Chappell has stated that the visitors ‘punched themselves in the mouth’ even before the series began. He criticized Australia for not backing their strength which is fast bowling as they pinned their hopes on the spinners. In the second Test in Delhi, Australia had gone in with three front-line spinners and just one pacer.
“It was Mike Tyson who said in the lead-up to a fight with Evander Holyfield: Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth,” Greg Chappell wrote in his column for the Sydney Morning Herald.
Australia arrived in India as the best Test side in the world but their performance so far has been nothing less than a disaster. India thoroughly outplayed them in both Tests and won both games within three days. The defeats in the first two Tests have already dashed their hopes of winning a Test series in India for the first time since the 2004/05 season.
