Former Liverpool shot-stopper Lorius Karius once again had a final to forget, this time the Carabao Cup for Newcastle United. The Magpies had a chance to end their barren run of 67 years without the piece of silverware as they contested the Carabao Cup final against Manchester United, who themselves were looking to lift their first trophy since 2017.

With his side in hot-form, sitting fifth in the Premier League four points adrift of fourth place Tottenham with two games in hand, Karius made his debut for Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final since joining on a free transfer from the Liverpool last summer. Karius’ debut however came after first-choice Nick Pope’s dismissal against Liverpool.

Fans quick to joke about Karius’ goalkeeper gloves from Carabao Cup final

Karius is Newcastle’s third-choice shot-stopper, with No. 2 Martin Dubravka, who spent first-half of the season on loan at United, missed the final since he was cup-tied. The 2018 Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid was a nightmare for Karius who was between the sticks and he hadn’t participated in a competitive game in the past two years. As a result, the Newcastle fans were sent in a panic mode after a video showed Karius appearing tense during warmup prior to the kickoff at Wembley.

Unfortunately, once the game started, things did not get much better as Karius and Newcastle found themselves behind 2-0 at the half-time itself. And eagle-eyed fans immediately noticed the German goalkeeper’s gloves, with some speculating that he had purchased them from B&Q. Here are the reactions to the Newcastle shot-stopper’s unique keeping gloves:
