Indian Legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar feels Australian selectors should be questioned for their team selection in Border Gavaskar Trophy. Many former Australian Cricketers criticized the players for their poor performance in the series, but the Indian legend believes more responsibility must be taken by the selectors.
Many former cricketers Allan Border, Steve Waugh, and Matthew Hayden have been constantly criticizing their captain and players over their performance in the four-match series. Sunil Gavaskar said that blame should be put on selectors instead of players. Gavaskar slammed selectors for selecting players in the team who are unfit to be part of the playing 11. In his column for Sportstar, Gavaskar Wrote.
“While the ex-Australian players on the various media platforms are having a real go at their players, the ones who should be the real targets are the Australian selectors. How can they pick three players (Hazlewood, Starc, and Cameron Green) who they knew would not be available for selection for the first two Test matches? That is, for half the series, the team management had only 13 players to pick from.

Gavaskar stressed that the selectors had no plans with the team selection and recalled Australia flying Kuhnemann to the second test instead of playing Ashton Agar who was selected in the squad as the secondary spinner along with Nathan Lyon and voiced that Australian Selectors should resign irrespective of the series result.
“Then they fly in a newcomer (Matthew Kuhnemann) when they had a similar player already on the team. If they didn’t think the player on the team was good enough, why did they pick him in the first place? That meant the team management was picking their 11 from 12 players. Ridiculous. If they have any sense of responsibility the selectors should resign even if Australia makes a stunning comeback and win the next two Tests and level the series,”
Australia will take on India in the fourth and final test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy starting on March 9 in Ahmedabad. India will look to win the match and try to secure their place in the World Test Championship finals.
The Pitch Might Get Demerit Points – Sunil Gavaskar Shares His Views On Ahmedabad Pitch
Sunil Gavaskar said that if the Ahmedabad Pitch is a turner, India will go on to win the series but at cost of demerit points for the pitch. India is likely to bounce back and claim the trophy and their place in the WTC final.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen in Ahmedabad. If the pitch in Ahmedabad is a raging turner, then India might go on to win but once again the pitch might get demerit points,” he added.
The Indian pitch was receiving an average rating from the ICC. ICC deemed the Indore pitch as ‘poor’ where the ball started spinning from Day 1 during the third Test. The ICC rules state that a venue will be suspended from hosting any international cricket for 12 months if it accumulates five or more demerit points over a five-year rolling period.
